Royal Botanical Gardens Victoria
Annual Report Publication Design
Swinburne University of Technology
The projects task was to design a 24 page A4 Portrait Annual Report taking the information from the Royal Botanical Gardens in Victoria's 2018-18 Annual Report. The report needed to express the vision and mission of the organisation. My research and audience analyse lead me to the creative concept of cottage core.
What is Cottagecore? A concept that embraces a simpler, sustainable existence that is more harmonious with nature. Aesthetically, it’s a nod to the traditional English countryside style, romantic and nostalgic (Reggev, K. 2020, October 21).

I believe this concept resonates well with the RBGV in their vision of a flourishing community and healthy planet - and the efforts to preserve natural ecosystems. As humans, we have a symbiotic relationship with all life form on Earth, whether its a bull ant to algae or an apple on a tree. Everything we need to survive/heal/grow is already on the Earth.

This concept came to fruition from the RBGV key value “creative”. I wanted to create a sense of wonder and imagination as if looking through a child’s eyes.

WHIMSICAL // FLOURISHING COMMUNITY // MAGICAL // CURIOSITY // GROWTH // ADVENTURE

By combining paper textures (either torn or roughly cut), with close up images of flowers, mushrooms, bees and with the use of hand-drawn elements overlapping it will create an organic, harmonious style to the look and feel of the publication.
